Announcing: Tigerlabs Health, a Healthcare IT Accelerator in the Heart of Big Pharma

Today, Tigerlabs is proud to announce the launch of the first Healthcare IT Accelerator Program in the heart of the NJ pharmaceutical corridor, Tigerlabs Health. Set to begin in February 2013, Tigerlabs Health will provide each participating team with a host of perks including $20,000 in seed funding, mentorship, software, professional seminars, and a home in our co-working facility in Princeton, NJ. The program will culminate in a demo day where teams will present to a room of investors and influential industry executives, launching their company into the spotlight. The application to Tigerlabs Health is open today and submissions will be accepted through the deadline of November 15, 2012.

Located in the backyard of Big Pharma, Tigerlabs is uniquely positioned to leverage regional and national executive and investor relationships to usher in a new culture of innovation into the Healthcare IT sector. Through Tigerlabs Health, our goal is to not just create another accelerator, but rather to solve real problems that the industry is facing – and shake up its much maligned and notoriously lengthy development process. We have created a program that connects entrepreneurs who have big ideas with the executives and investors who could help in actually bringing them to market.

Tigerlabs will be considering entrepreneurial ventures across a wide spectrum of solutions. Some technologies that we are excited about include, but are not limited to:

  • Mobile Health (mHealth): helping consumers take control of their health with fun, elegant and easy to use mobile applications
  • Software as a Service (SaaS): Platform delivery of cloud based medical records, data, information, and provider information.
  • Disease management: Identification, reporting, tracking, and analysis of disease diagnosis, spread, and treatment.
  • Integrated care management: Connecting inputs, delivery management, and organization of services related to diagnosis, treatment, care, rehabilitation and health promotion.
  • Adherence programs: Allowing providers, payers, and consumers to monitor adherence to remote medical treatment.
  • Big data: Compilation, analysis, and presentation of consumer, professional, clinical, payment, and medical records data.
  • Clinical discovery platforms: Assisting in the implementation, monitoring, analysis, and discovery of clinical platforms.
  • Self diagnosis: Allowing consumers to observe, record, understand, and cure simple health problems.
  • Remote monitoring: Enabling health providers and payers to track consumer adherence, health, payment, and medical records virtually.
  • Payer/consumer disruption: Developing the relation between the payer and consumer through improved communication, payment, understanding, and conveyance of information.
  • Virtual care: Providing consumers access to doctors, healthcare professionals, through platform applications.
  • Remote therapy: Virtual assessment, delivery, and monitoring of therapeutic care.

This expansion of the Tigerlabs platform comes at an exciting time. Through Tigerlabs Commons, we are building a unique entrepreneurship center, with already 11 companies and 40+ entrepreneurs calling Tigerlabs their home. In addition, Tigerlabs just celebrated the completion of the inaugural Tigerlabs University class, an accelerator designed to meet the needs of student entrepreneurs. Seven teams comprised of students from Princeton University, Penn State, Virginia Tech, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Chicago, and Lehigh University came to Princeton for an fast-paced summer of learning, developing, designing, and execution, culminating in demo day (for more info, here’s an article from TechCrunch). Stay tuned for the announcement of our Summer 2013 Tigerlabs University class.

“Fund Me Maybe”

By popular demand, below are the lyrics to “Fund Me Maybe” as written by members of Tigerlabs’ inaugural University Accelerator. A special thanks to Will Kelly of TonightLife, the unofficial Tigerlabs creative director and the awesome video editor who put this summer recap together. Without further ado…

Fund Me Maybe

I threw my code in the well
Don’t ask me, I’ll never sell
I looked to you as it fell
And now you’re in my round

I trade my soul for a pitch
non-capped notes for a kiss
Standard vesting, no cliff
But now you’re in my round
Oh no, Bert is yelling
VCs coming, deck’s not ready
Demo failing, code unsteady
Startup life is driving me crazy!

Hey, I just pitched you, and this is crazy
But here’s my number, so fund me maybe
It’s hard to start up, without your money
But here’s my pitch deck, so fund me maybe

Hey, I just pitched you, and this is crazy
But here’s my number, so fund me maybe
And all the other funds, try to chase me
But here’s my pitch deck, so fund me maybe

I took my time with the deck
You just skimmed it, what the heck
You told me nothing at all, but you’re still in my round
And I think I have found
Yet even more VCs
I didn’t know I would find ‘em, but there in my sight

Oh no, Bert is yelling
VCs coming, deck’s not ready
Demo failing, code unsteady
Startup life is driving me crazy!

Hey, I just pitched you, and this is crazy
But here’s my number, so fund me maybe
It’s hard to start up, without your money
But here’s my pitch deck, so fund me maybe

Hey, I just pitched you, and this is crazy
But here’s my number, so fund me maybe
And all the other VCs, try to chase me
But here’s my pitch deck, so fund me maybe

Before I came to Tigerlabs my code was so bad
My code was so bad… my code was so, so bad
Before I came to Tigerlabs my code was so bad
And you should know that… my code was so, so bad

It finally looks right, it’s my baby
And here’s my number, so fund me maybe

Hey, I just pitched you, and this is crazy
But here’s my number, so fund me maybe
And all the other VCs, try to chase me
But here’s my pitch deck, so fund me maybe

Before I came to Tigerlabs my code was so bad
My code was so bad… my code was so, so bad
Before I came to Tigerlabs my code was so bad
And you should know that…
So fund me maybe

Building an Entrepreneurial Epicenter

So you want to start a tech company? The adage used to go that if this was your goal, move to Silicon Valley. And then it became San Francisco (because who wants to fork over millions for real estate in sleepy Mountain View anyway?). And then it became New York. And, slowly but surely around the United States tech entrepreneurship has become a pervasive force not only physically, but also in the cloud. But, the connection between the physical, the cloud, and the involved individuals has meaningful impact on the refinement, development, and growth of companies.

And then there was Princeton. Just as the traditional feeder systems of Stanford and Berkeley have powered the growth of tech entrepreneurship in the Valley and San Francisco, the wealth of talent from Princeton University, the surrounding schools, the deep entrepreneurship tradition, and a wave of tech entrepreneurship is powering the growth of tech  in not only New York and Philadelphia, but also the greater Northeast Corridor. Companies like Artsy, Branch, AppNexus, Scvngr, TerraCycle, and Princeton Power Systems, amongst others born in the Princeton area, represent the next generation of startups making a big splash in the tech community, disrupting the assumed status quo.

Tigerlabs was founded to foster this innovation by targeting, mentoring, building, and launching companies into the tech world. The Tigerlabs team, our sponsors, and our friend network share a vision of creating an entrepreneurial epicenter in Princeton. By harnessing existing systems, developing new ones, and bringing together a fragmented entrepreneurial community in the immediate vicinity we hope to do more than put Princeton entrepreneurship on the map - we want to be the next step for tech entrepreneurs looking to make their mark.

Tigerlabs 2012 Summer Accelerator

The Glorious Tiger Inn

On Wednesday, June 6 the Tigerlabs 2012 Summer Accelerator class officially moved into our summer residence, the Tiger Inn (pictured above), colloquially known as TI. Located right next to Princeton University along Prospect Avenue, TI is one of the historic eating clubs. Part dining space, part social epicenter, and part home, TI will serve as our home for 11 weeks this summer, culminating with our Demo Day in August (stay tuned for further details).

This summer, we welcome 7 teams into our space, culled down from an initial applicant pool of approximately 200. These teams represent a variety of ages (17-24), schools (Princeton, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Cambridge, The Lawrenceville School - yes, recent high school graduates), and both current students and recent graduates. But, if there is one common denominator, it is that they are hungry and motivated to produce exceptional products.

And with that, we are off to the races! Stay tuned to our website, blog, and twitter for updates on the journeys of all of the participating teams and the attached events.
